2026 Reality Store at Argyle High School

Group of people practicing financial literacy

During the morning of Friday, April 24, 2026, students from Argyle, Pecatonica & Barneveld High Schools participated in a hands-on financial literacy event at Argyle High School. This event, known as Reality Check, provided an opportunity for students to learn how to handle their money responsibly by getting a glimpse of the realities, such as paying rent and making other financial decisions, beyond graduation. Each student was given a job they hoped to have after high school. Based on their job selection, they were given a monthly income to pay for their bills. Students then traveled around to approximately 20 booths, ranging from housing and automobiles to insurance and shopping for attire necessary for their occupation. During their travels to the different booths, students were able to connect with representatives from over 10 local businesses. These businesses provided information and options for students, as well as advising and insight from years of experience in their respective fields. The goals for this project were to help improve students’ understanding of the realities of living on their own and to stress the importance of financial planning and sound decision-making. We would like to thank all of the businesses, volunteers, and our local school districts for their participation and support in making the 2026 Reality Check another successful event!
