This farmstand can be found on the side of Hwy 78 just south of Blanchardville in the grass of C&G Storage facility.
Trying new things can be scary at first but once you actually do that new thing, it is a rush. That was something that Mia Harris of Argyle felt when she first thought about making sourdough bread.
“I’ve always made my homemade bread with yeast but I wanted to make sourdough for long time but heard it was hard.” Mia remembers her first time making it, after watching several tutorial videos, and everything went great.
“I haven’t made a regular type of bread since.”
She began making her sourdough last summer. Soon her love of making sourdough was getting to be too much for her family and friends.
“I was baking so much that it was overwhelming myself and my family with bread,” she joked. She started taking pre-orders for people to buy some of the bread. Then she got the idea of creating a small farm stand, and Hearth and Hare Homestead was created.
“It’s cute and fun and I wanted the ability to have an income and stay home with my kids.”
The stand is located at C&G storage on Hwy 78 just south of Blanchardville. The stand is open Friday-Sunday, with Friday and Saturday open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The stand has cookies, cinnamon rolls, assortment of beef tallow products (lip balm, body oil, lotions, soaps, made by Mia’s mother), and of course sourdough. There is the classic sourdough, Italian herb and cheese, garlic and herb, cinnamon swirl, and maple bake loaf. Her newest flavor is Dill Pepperjack. There are usually three loaves of each flavor.
To know exactly what is there, Mia posts on her Facebook Page, Hearth and Hare Homestead. For those who can’t make it to the stand, she has a pre-order system. With her new job in Monroe, there is also the ability to pick up loaves and items in Monroe. The best way to contact her is via Facebook Messenger or her text her phone number 608-636-5694.
She hasn’t thought that far into the future on what she would like to do with her bread. Right now her goal is to have the entire stand sell out one day.
“I’d love for us to show up and there are people waiting for us to open.”
She continues to love making the sourdough and can’t wait for everyone to try it as well.
