Arnold O. Lien, age 97, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at SSM
Health Monroe Hospital. Born on October 4, 1928, at home on the family
farm in rural Argyle, Wisconsin, Arnold lived his entire life on the
land he cherished and in community he loved.
Arnold was the cherished son of Ole Lien and Ella (Nybroten) Lien. He
was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Janice (Pulver) Lien, whom he
married on September 21, 1968, at Belleville United Church of Christ. A
man of deep faith, Arnold was a faithful member of Adams Lutheran Church
and proudly served as building fund treasurer for 38 years.
Arnold was a proud and hardworking farmer, dedicating his days to dairy
farming and caring for his land and livestock. A proud member for 60
years of the Argyle American Legion Post 251, receiving his quilt of
valor in 2025. In his child raising years, Arnold happily supported his
children’s 4-H activities, especially showing cattle. A lifelong
patriot, Arnold served his country honorably as a Corporal Infantryman
in the United States Army during the Korean War, assigned to the 40th
Infantry Division from October 24, 1951, until his honorable discharge
on July 23, 1953.
An avid baseball fan, Arnold loved listening to games on the radio and
cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals in his youth, later becoming a
Milwaukee Brewers fan. He treasured dancing and fondly recalled meeting
his wife, Janice at a dance at Turner Hall in Madison, a pastime he
enjoyed throughout his life. Sundays were sacred to Arnold, a day of
rest and worship. He delighted in family traditions like Friday night
fish fries and the making of lefse during the holidays, teaching the
younger generations the art and joy of this special craft. Nothing
brought him greater joy than the hugs of his grandchildren.
Arnold is lovingly survived by his wife Janice; his children, Lori
(Bernard) Moen of Oshkosh, WI, Larry Lien of Argyle, and Lenny (Susan)
Lien of Milton, WI; grandchildren Leah and Ben Moen, Elsa and Vance
Lien; and his sister Virginia Bredeson. He was preceded in death by his
sister Grace Huber and his parents.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
at Adams Lutheran Church (_N7148 County Rd A, Argyle, WI) _with Reverend
Erich Hartenberger officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday, July
7, 2026, from 5:00PM to 7:00 p.m. at Adams Lutheran Church. A time of
visitation will also be held prior to the funeral service on Wednesday,
July 8, 2026, from 10:00AM until the time of service. The Erickson
