Pecatonica started the Six Rivers East season with a win after a long road trip to Albany.
Albany won the first set 25-11 but after the Vikings shook off the bus lag they went on to turn back the Comets 25-15, 25-13 and 25-20.
The win set the Vikings at 1-0 in SRE and 4-1 overall.
“All three teams played incredibly well,” said Vikings coach Melissa Schlimgen. “We started the night with a split 1-1 with our JV2 squad, a 2-1 win for our JV1 squad, and a Varsity 3-1 win.”
It was not an easy start for the Vikings.
“Albany came out very strong to start and was incredibly competitive in their play challenging our defense,” Schlimgen said about the first set.
“Our passing, led by libero Ella Orloff with 42 digs, really came around the second set allowing us to capitalize on the ball throughout our offense,” Schlimgen pointed out. “Senior Aleah Harris really came to play with 15 kills on the night. Serving aces were led by freshman setter Lexi Lancaster with four and junior setter Lila Schlimgen with three.
Sophomore newcomer Letti Newkirk had an outstanding four kills and four block kills.”
