Chuck Chandler is back to guide the Argyle/Pecatonica golf squad with some high expectations.
A/P is coming off a third place finish in the SWAL Conference, a third place finish in Division 3 WIAA Regional at House on The Rock, and a WIAA Division 3 Sectional Qualifier with a furth place finish among 12 teams.
Also Avari Steiner qualified for WIAA Division 3 State Tournament (UW Ridge) as an individual, shooting 80.
The co-op will have to replace Alex Ruetten, a four year SWAL All Conference performer and a onetime WIAA State Qualifier.
Returning letter winners forming the nucleus for the co-op squad are:
- Cohlman Schlimgen (12), 2 year letterwinner
- Caleb McKenna (12) 1 year varsity letterwinner
- Avari Steiner (11) 2025 2nd Team SWAL All Conference, 2025 WIAA Division 3 State Qualifier
To fill in the remaining spots the co-op will chose from:
- Landon Wahl (11)
- Blake Farrell (11)
- Beckett Meiden (11)
- Tucker Bethke (10)
“All will need to contribute on varsity this season,” said Chandler. Expectations are high for the golf squad.
“We should compete for a top spot in the SWAL Conference,” Chandler says. “We return three varsity kids after finishing third last year. Point is the defending conference champ but only have two returning players. Cuba City should be the favorite with four kids returning from a second place conference finish last season.”
The Pointers and the Cubans are Chandler’s choices as the conference favorites.
But A/P is ready to challenge.
“Avari and Cohlman have lots of varsity experience, in golf and other sports. Both kids have the ability to shoot under par. Not many teams have this realistic potential,” pointed out Chandler.
What to expect from the co-op?
“We’ll have two varsity spots to fill with kids with no varsity experience,” said Chandler. “There will be competition for these two varsity spots on a weekly basis.”
