Join us for a presentation of Chinese poetry and music on Monday, Aug. 3rd, 1pm in celebration of the Blanchardville Public Library’s successful East Asia Grant, which has allowed us to bring Asian voices into the library through new books (Asian histories, memoirs, manga, cookbooks and ‘kids’ books) and presenters.
An unreleased poetic composition of Musical Poetry written for this occasion will be unveiled by the duo: Nemo, Cosmic Speck of Dust [W. S. West, Reciter, Composer] and Faithful Joy [Dr. Amy L. West, Flutist-Accompanist and teacher of Chinese Language and Culture]. Their invitation is as follows:
"Abode of the Scholar of Rocks Mountains Rivers Streams in Slanted Rain"
Delicate, brief, fragile as a Plum Blossom [Mêi-hua] falling, a flake among petaled snow, the ephemeral Dream of Spring slumbering;
Dragon undulating, churning, Riderof-Waves, festively racing on rivers; Momentary: a moment in momentum moving unsuspended within the Space of a Single Breath is the Brevity of this fleeting Life: a wavelet rippling, rapidly passing flowing on Tide of Time Flowering.
This short presentation is in dedication and recognition of the Library receiving the award for:
"East Asia in the Upper Midwest Library Program competition with the goal of enriching patrons’ understanding of East Asia," sponsored by the "Center for East Asian Studies, Institute for Regional and International Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 2026."
Blanchardville is the sole Library in the Southwest Wisconsin Regional District Designation to have achieved this distinction. Sarah Kyrie was the author-applicant grant proposal-writer whose efforts made this possible.
