AIDAN GRUENENFELDER, a former Pecatonica High School athlete, concluded his first season on the Loras College men’s wrestling team last weekend.

Gruenenfelder, a freshman at 125 lbs, won two matches and lost two at the NCAA Division III national championships held in Cedar Rapids, Ia.

A 10-7 loss to Kurt Mokros from Ohio Northern University sent Gruenenfelder into the consolation bracket.

He responded with victories over Quintin Wolbert from UW-La Crosse, 11-9, and a 15-3 MD over Mac Cafurello from Roanoke College (Va).

A 4-2 loss to a familiar foe – Brett Birchman from Wartburg College (Ia) ended Gruenenfelder’s season.

Loras scored 54-5 points and placed eighth out of 68 teams.

AVA WIEGEL, a former Argyle High School athlete, played in five of six games for Beloit College last week.

Wiegel, a freshman C/1B, started behind the plate for the Buccaneers in two of those contests.

She reached base in both of her starts.

Wiegel singled then was lifted for a pinch runner against Bowdoin College (Me) and walked twice against Carroll University.

The Buccaneers dropped their final six games in Winter Haven, Fla., to Dominican University (III), Bowdoin, Washington College (Md), Carroll, Buena Vista University (Ia), and Penn State New Kensington (Pa).

Beloit (1-13, 0-0) is scheduled to play at Rockford University (III) on Thursday before hosting the University of Dubuque (Ia) on Saturday.

JAMESON JOHNSON, a former Pecatonica High School athlete, helped power the Rock Valley College (III) baseball team to a pair of wins last week.

Johnson, a 6-2 sophomore UTL, went a combined 2-for-8 at the plate with two runs scored and three runs batted in (RBI) as the Golden Eagles destroyed the Saluqis of Southwest Tennessee Community College, 16- 4 and 22-1.

He belted a solo home run in the first game then stroked a 2-run single in the nightcap.

RVC (4-6, 0-0) is scheduled to host

Northeast Iowa Community College on Wednesday before traveling to Carl Sandburg College (III) on Saturday and Morton College (III) on Monday.

ELIJAH KNUTSON, a former Pecatonica High School athlete, appeared in one game for the Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) baseball team last week.

Knutson, a 5-10 sophomore catcher, was behind the dish as the Warriors faced the University of Valley Forge (Pa) in Fort Myers, Fla.

He batted 1-for-3 with a single in the fourth inning against the Patriots, who won the game, 6-5.

WLC (3-7, 0-0) plays at Carroll on Thursday before traveling to Mount Vernon, Ia., this weekend to play Cornell College.
