Late rally sends Belleville past Vikings

Pecatonica’s softball team was clinging to a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh but then Murphy’s Law came into play.

The law-what can go wrong will go wrong and Belleville went on to score six runs on two hits, five walks and an error.

The Vikings had some good moments though. At the plate, Brooklynn Johnsrud was 2×3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Katelynne Jorenby was 2×2 with a double, two RBIs, a run scored, four stolen bases and two walks

Tatum Kurschner was 2×3 with an RBI, three stolen bases and two runs scored.

Kaiya York was 1×4 with three RBIs.

Sam Hittesdorf pitched six innings and had four ks and nine walks,

The Vikings were the first to get on the board in the third when Jorenby doubled, scoring one run. They took the lead, 5-2, in the top of the fifth thanks to singles by Tatum Kurschner, Jenna Kurschner, and York.

The Vikings amassed 10 hits in the game. York, the number seven hitter led the way with three runs batted in.

The right-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day.

Johnsrud, Kurschner, and Jorenby each collected two hits for the Vikings. Jorenby paced them with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing five walks for the game.

Maddie Meddaugh, Johnsrud, Kurschner, and Jorenby each stole multiple bases with the Vikings tallying nine stolen bases for the game.

Pecatonica will play at home on Thursday against Highland in their next game.
