Argyle

The Larson-Mason-Monson- Penniston Post 251 of Argyle would like to invite you to the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Argyle Legion Park. We will honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. It will begin on Monday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. We will also have a small dedication ceremony for our name change, and honor EMT of the Year Sarah Vosberg, Firefighter of the Year Andrew Schild, Elementary Educator of the Year Kim Stamm, and High School Educator of the Year Kendahl Schlueter. There will be a lunch served following the ceremony at the shelter house. In case of rain, ceremony will take place in the Argyle School.

Blanchardville

The Dobson-Johnson-Gallagher Post 142, Blanchardville, will have their Memorial Day Service at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 25 at the Fire/EMS building (former Legion Building). Guest speaker will be Bill Hustad.

Bill Hustad was a Sergeant in the Infantry with 101 Airborne Division in Vietnam in 1969-1970 after being drafted on October 28, 1968. Bill was wounded in combat on October 28, 1969. Bill grew up in New Glarus and married his High School sweetheart, Jackie. He graduated from UW-Madison in 1968 and worked for IBM for 28 years. He currently lives in New Glarus. Jackie and Bill have three children and 8 grandchildren.

Bill has been State Commander/President of VF W- State of WI, WI Vietnam Veterans Inc, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Military Order of the Cooties, and Old Abe Chapter of 101* Airborne division Assn. He is also active locally in American Legion, AMVETS, Madison VVA Chapter 220, WI Veterans Museum in Madison and Madison Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2. He is or was active in community groups such as Lions, United Way of Green County, University of WI Alumni Assn of Green County, New Glarus Swiss Church, New Glarus Jaycees, and Exeter Town Supervisor.

Green’s Prairie Cemetery

The Green’s Prairie Cemetery Association will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026 at 1 p.m. The ceremony will honor the veterans interred there from the Black Hawk War, the War of 1812 and the Civil War and will include a brief presentation on life in the 1840’s when the cemetery was established. Green’s Prairie Cemetery is located in the Town of York on Postville Road between county highways A and H. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Town of York Hall, also on Postville Road. Chairs are recommended as there is no seating at the cemetery.

Hollandale

The Martinson American Legion Post 510 of Hollandale invites everyone to their parade down Main Street in Hollandale at 11 a.m. Kids are welcome to decorate their bikes in red, white, and blue and join the parade. Local youth groups are encouraged to join the parade. Following the parade there will be a Memorial Day Ceremony honoring our fallen veterans at the Hollandale Legion Park. Brat feed to follow the ceremony. Proceeds to be used for high school scholarships and local food bank.

Woodlawn Cemetery

Garry Rossing, Woodlawn Cemetery Association board member, places poppies on the grave of Howard Earl Penniston, who was killed in action during WWII. For Memorial Day, again this year, the Association is placing poppies on the graves of servicemen interred at the cemetery who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. In addition to Howard Penniston, these include, Herman F. Larson, Homer I. Martin and Leonard D. Penniston.
