Pecatonica Area School District will offer an all-online learning option to expand options for students and families, starting with the 2026- 27 school year.
Pec’s partnership with eAchieve will give any student kindergarten through 12th grade the option for full-time virtual learning, which helps meet student needs and expands the district’s ability to increase enrollment.
“I’m excited about it because not all students strive in a brick-andmortar school system,” said Superintendent Dani Scott. “It’s another opportunity for us to serve kids while still allowing them to be a Pecatonica graduate.”
The offering allows the district to encourage students who have open enrolled out to use other districts’ virtual learning option to return to Pecatonica with participation in eAchieve. The partnership will allow Pec to keep a portion of open enrollment tuition when students enroll in the district, an important financial benefit for a small, rural district, Scott said.
“It’s important for us to keep looking for ways to welcome more kids to our district,” she said.
Enrollment in Pecatonica’s eAchieve courses also will allow students to fully participate in all district co-curricular activities, including forensics, FFA, music and athletics. Families can begin enrolling in Pec’s eAchieve option this summer – more details will be provided to families when registration is available.
“We are really excited about this opportunity,” Scott shared. “It’s an important step for the district.”
Meanwhile, Pecatonica also is moving forward with offering high school world language coursework in a virtual-based format through Cooperative Educational Service Agency 3’s SRTNC Distance Learning Network. Students have been taking foreign language coursework through this CESA 3 option since the start of the 2025-26 school year. The district has opted to continue with this format, which provides a fully interactive video distance learning network utilizing the latest in video conference technology. The school board recently voted to reallocate the former Spanish teaching position to allow for the addition of a second high school English teacher, who will help offer expanded English and communications-related electives.
“Additional English offerings support all students, regardless of the post-secondary pathways they plan to choose,” Scott said. “We’re excited to keep offering new options for students to get learning experiences and skills that will serve them long after high school.”
