Safety lights ordered, board reorganized

After the Argyle School Board of Education was reorganized at their meeting on Wednesday, May 13, with everyone staying in the same positions, as there were no new members on the board, the board then approved ordering safety lights.

At the Building and Grounds Committee meeting, they discussed about ordering safety lights. These safety lights would flash whenever there is an announcement over the PA system. These would be installed in the band room, gymnasium, tech ed room, and other places where there could be loud noises impeding the sound from being heard. The cost is $1,400 for 10 of them.

As stated, the board stayed the same with Heath Isley as president, Jon Stoeger as vice president, Nicole Meinert as treasurer and Kevin Slater as clerk. The board meetings will continue to be on the second Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m.

Action items

The board also approved:

– two new para-professionals, one position as a .4 tutor and one as a .9 para-professional.

– the contract with CESA 3 for library services. This is for $5,600 for the year. It is for one day a month. They will also work on budgeting things with the business office. Superintendent Dr. Randy Refsland stated that he has been in discussions with the village on possibly sharing library services. The issue is the school requires a librarian to have a teaching degree where a public librarian doesn’t need one so if they were to share a librarian they would need to meet the requirements of the school district. It is still in discussion as Argyle Public Library is currently looking at hiring a library director.

– upgrading the math curriculum at the elementary level. This is not changing the curriculum just upgrading it to the newest version. The contract is $20,000 for three years.

– Lamers Bus company as their transportation provider for the next three years.

– salaries for support staff and the administrative team. The increase for all of these ends up being 5% with the exception of Dr. Refsland who declined an increase.

– approved the 2.63 percent increase for 2026-2027 teacher contracts.

– sending out 2026-2027 support staff letters of assignment.

– 2026 summer contracts.

– open enrollment applications. The district has seven in and seven out. People can apply to multiple districts to open enroll into but that doesn’t mean they be attending until they complete all the requirement paperwork.

– the renewal of the co-op agreement with Pecatonica Area School District with minor changes.

– the renewal of insurance contract with Tricor.

– the 2026-2027 Argyle School

District Academic and Career Plan.
