Historical Background of the Veterans Memorial and F-86H Sabre Fighter Jet.

1970- The F-86H Sabre Fighter Jet was procured and placed in Argyle Legion Park by Amos Waage and Phil Steiner.

1998-Resurfaced and repainted through the collaboration of the Wisconsin Air National Guard and Wisconsin Army National Guard.

2007-2008- Community-led effort established the Argyle Veterans Memorial around the jet, including a concrete pad, landscaping, flagpoles, lighting, granite stones engraved with 700 veteran names, and a dedication ceremony in May 2008.

Community Involvement: The memorial was made possible through generous donations from individuals, local organizations, and businesses.

In 2025 during the National Museum of the United States Air Force’s five-year loan renewal inspection, maintenance needs were identified, including corrosion repair, filling minor holes and complete repainting. While the Wisconsin Army and Air National Guard assisted in the past, they are currently unable to provide support due to budget and manpower limitations. A specialized comp.any that services static displays has provided a quote of $21,000 to sand, repair, repaint and restore the jet’s markings.

Call to Action:

Once again, the community individuals, local organizations, and businesses from all around the area have come forward and contributed to make this a reality. The goal of $21,000 has been met and the plane will be restored in May or June of this year.

Argyle American Legion appreciates all that have supported and contributed to another project that Argyle Legion has undertaken. We are proud of this community and its generous support!

A list of supporters are listed, we know we probably missed someone, but please know that you are appreciated!
